Where were you when you first heard A Tribe Called Quest? I recall being in Elementary school in ‘91 when I first heard “Bonita Applebum” from one of my best friends, then onto “Can I Kick It?” and from then on I took it upon myself to explore these pioneers and from that moment I was introduced to what folks might call “feel good hip-hop”. Following the Abstract and his crew made my love for hip-hop what is it today, and in the celebration of Q-Tip’s latest album “The Renaissance”, DJ Definit releases “A Lounge Called Quest” creating a enjoyable mixtape minus the typical self-promotion and disturbing scratching, it takes you into a zen-like mind frame enjoying classic Tribe tracks bringing you back to the early 90’s and that special place you where at.
